Eligibility & Booking

Before booking any element of the QLTS, candidates must first check their eligibility.

  • Eligibility and Exemptions

Candidates wishing to sit any element of the QLTS should first ensure that they have read the information on the Solicitors Regulation Authority website in respect of recognised jurisdictions, character and suitability.

Candidates wishing to apply for exemption from any part of the QLTS assessments must contact the SRA.  Where a candidate has obtained any exemption from the SRA, evidence of that exemption must be provided at the time of booking any QLTS assessment.

Any queries about jurisdiction, character and suitability, and exemptions should be directed to:

The Solicitors Regulation Authority Information Services
    The Cube
    199 Wharfside Street
    Birmingham
    B1 1RN

    Tel: 0121 329 6800 or +44 (0)121 329 6800 from overseas
    Or at www.sra.org.uk

  • Change of name

Where a candidate’s name changes at any stage between registering with Kaplan QLTS and attending an assessment the candidate must bring supporting documents to the assessment itself to explain the change in name. Any candidate who is in doubt about which documents are required should discuss this with a member of the QLTS administration team before the day of the assessment.

Registration and Booking

The MCT Assessment

The MCT is delivered by computer-based assessment, through a network of test centres administered by Pearson VUE. Candidates are offered a choice of locations during the process of booking through Pearson VUE. Locations include China, New York, India, London, Scotland and selected cities in mainland Europe. To have a look at test centre availability, candidates can use the Seat Availability function on the Pearson VUE Kaplan QLTS website.

Candidates must register with Kaplan QLTS by the registration deadline in order to be able to book a place on the MCT through Pearson VUE. All bookings (including payment) must be made by the booking deadline. The registration and booking deadlines can be found here.

Candidates are advised that test centres in central London are very popular. If there is no availability within London, candidates may wish to consider test centres outside of central London that are reachable by train from London. A selection of these test centres and their journey times are shown here. All test centres are subject to availability.

Candidates who are required to register for the MCT

The following candidates MUST submit a registration form before they are able to book an MCT assessment:

  • Candidates sitting the MCT for the first time, or who last sat before February 2016, and who do not have a Pearson VUE Web Account
  • All candidates who previously had reasonable adjustments agreed
  • All candidates who have been granted exemptions by the SRA.

Candidates will receive an automated acknowledgement of their registration, following which they will be contacted by Pearson VUE within 21 days to begin the booking process for the MCT.

Candidates who are not required to register again for the MCT

Candidates who have previously received an email from Pearson VUE informing them of their log in details for the Pearson VUE Web Account do NOT need to register for the MCT again.

These candidates can book an MCT assessment by logging in to their Web Account or through the Pearson Customer Service Centre (+44 161 855 7584).

Please note if no assessments show upon logging into the Web Account it is probable that booking has not yet opened for the next assessment. Please contact qlts@kaplan.co.uk for further information about when booking will open.

Important: If any personal details including name, address and email address have changed since you registered with Kaplan QLTS, you must email Kaplan QLTS at qlts@kaplan.co.uk with the updated information.

Candidates who have not previously sat any QLTS assessment

Candidates must register with Kaplan QLTS before they can book an OSCE assessment in order to obtain a candidate number. After submitting a registration form, a candidate will be contacted by the QLTS administration team confirming that their registration is complete and issuing them with a candidate number. This should be within 5-10 working days. Once they have this confirmation, candidates can begin the process of booking an OSCE assessment by submitting the booking request form.

Any queries should be raised with our administration team on 0203 040 4900.

Following submission of the booking request form

After submitting a booking request form, a candidate will be contacted within 5-10 working days by the QLTS administration team, so that payment can be made and the OSCE booking finalised. The booking is not concluded and the place on the OSCE assessment is not secured until payment in full has been received. Payment can be made by debit or credit card over the telephone, or by cheque (made payable to Kaplan Financial QLTS) or by bank transfer.

After booking a place on the OSCE

Once candidates have booked into an OSCE assessment they receive an email from Kaplan QLTS confirming reservation of their place on the assessment.

An email confirming the booking, the assessment dates and the location of the assessment centre is sent out at the booking deadline.

Approximately 2 weeks prior to the assessment, Joining Instructions are sent out by email. These confirm the date of the assessment, the address at which the assessment is to be held and the time at which the candidate is to report to the assessment centre. The Joining Instructions also provide details of the identification documentation the candidate will be required to produce.

Please see OSCE ID and Security.
